Rail Fatigue Rig is an automated system to measure and study the structural strength of bogie frames, its components for rolling stock, railway tracks and sleepers by creating progressive & localized structural damage from different directions at various cycles. These tests help to engineer and design better Railway Infrastructure.
Following factors affect the Fatigue Life;
• Cyclic Stress State
• Geometry
• Surface Quality
• Material Type
• Residual Stresses
• Size & Distribution of Internal Defects
• Magnitude & Direction of Loading
• Grain Size
• Environment
• Temperature
This system was developed for RDSO along with IIT-Kanpur
