Highlights of Railway Budget 2011

• The honourable minister announces that anti-collision devices will be commissioned in three months
• The annual plan outlay for 2011-12 will be Rs 57,630 crores
• The budget comes at a time when the railways have run up a deficit of Rs 2,500 crores in the last year.
• Last year, the Indian Railways was given around $9 billion to spend. This year that allocation is likely to rise
• Loss of Rs 3,500 crores in 2010-11.
• Airport-like trolleys to be provided at more stations.
• Anti-collision device, successful in North West Frontier Railway, to be extended to three more zonal railways.
• To adopt modern technology through centers of academic excellence
• Work started on two dedicated freight corridors.

o Work on upgrading 442 stations to be completed by March 31.
o First coach from Rae Bareli factory in next three months.
o Work on wagon factory in Orissa to begin after land is acquired.
o Railways to set up factory in Jammu and Kashmir.
o To set up Metro coach factory at Singur in West Bengal.
o Manipur to be soon connected to railway network.
o Centre for excellence in software to be set up at Darjeeling.
o Combines strong economic focus along with inclusion.
o Develop business-oriented policies to aid industry.
o Happy to announce 85 PPP proposals received; set up single-window system to take these forward.
o Decide to set up rail-based industries.
o A GPS based ‘Fog Safe’ device has been deployed and I am happy to report that this year railways have handled the foggy weather without any untoward incident.
